Myth 1

I’m just a parent governor. No, you’re not – you are a full member of the governing board. Your views are as valid as the next persons. Clerks can help you manage and fill your vacancies, some clerks help run elections, some don’t. It’s ok if we don’t just keep us informed. Thanks.

Myth 2

Staff governors can be chairs. No, they can’t – they can chair meetings but they can’t be committee chairs or Board Chairs. Ditto headteachers. Plus they are not allowed to take minutes either. I read that somewhere in the…
